Hi, I'm Roxanne J. O'Connell

Roxanne O’Connell is an Ethiopian-American emerging writer whose work explores themes of migration, identity, and personal courage. She is a climate activist with nearly two decades of experience working at the intersection of human rights, climate, and economic justice.

Her advocacy work informs her storytelling, bringing depth and urgency to characters navigating a world shaped by inequality and resilience.

Roxanne's short story, Oasis in the Obsolescence was featured in the Free Spirit Collection: Stories Relating to the Environment. A Hurston-Wright Foundation Summer Workshop alumna, she is an active member of the Women’s Fiction Writers Association and the Writing Mastery Academy.

Roxanne holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Anthropology, and Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Roxanne splits her time wandering the forests at the foothills of Mount Kenya and in Maryland, where she lives with her husband and two children.

Roxanne is currently working on her debut novel.
